Youths enjoined to back Tinubu, get involved in politics

The Directorate of Youth Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has appealed to young Nigerians to support the party's candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he remains the best option for the country. This was the main point emphasized by all the speakers at an event in Lagos on Sunday dubbed 'Youth Conversation with the New Media Practitioners: The Renewed Hope for Young Nigerians: Our Roles and Expectations'.

National Youth Spokesman, Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, Aliyu Audu urged his fellow youths to set aside sentiments and consider, without bias, the candidate that has the antecedent and tracks record to tackle the current challenges facing the country. He said the APC candidate has a robust plan for the younger generation, including a plan to create millions of jobs for the teeming youthful population and a new template to fund tertiary education.

He said: 'For those of us familiar with the nearly comatose economy inherited in 1999 when Asiwaju became governor of Lagos State and the spate of unlawful activities perpetrated by mostly young people; his achievements in office, including the thriving entertainment and movie industry enabled by his government which engaged many hitherto idle youths.'

He said young Nigerians can assess the APC candidates' capacity to do a good job as Nigeria's next president based on his antecedents, competence and record of service, adding 'we can almost be certain that Nigeria will advance under Asiwaju'.

Audu said the youth should bury all forms of inherited pains or animosity, based on religion, ethnicity or regional affiliation because 'we are the generation to turn around the fate of our beloved Nigeria and we must start now by making informed decisions based on character, competence, capacity and pedigree of the candidates seeking our support and votes'.

He said this is not the time for blame games and that the APC government is aware of its shortcomings, particularly regarding the challenges facing young Nigerians, such as the issue of youth unemployment, police brutality and harassment young Nigerians, as well as the lack of stable and affordable education in the country.

The national youth spokesman said Tinubu has pledged to deploy technology and the digital economy to create jobs. He added: 'He has also promised to work on delivering a student loan that would greatly ease the burden of students and also deliver reforms to guarantee a stable academic...
