US ends Gabon aid over coup, calls for transition.

The United States has officially ended non-humanitarian assistance to Gabon following the coup that took place on August 30.

However, the US remains prepared to provide aid once the transitional government takes concrete steps towards democratic rule.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, 'We will resume our assistance alongside concrete actions by the transitional government towards establishing democratic rule.

The United States stands with the Gabonese people in their aspirations for democracy, prosperity, and stability.'

Although the US had previously paused assistance to Gabon after the military coup, the formal determination that a coup had occurred necessitated the end of non-humanitarian aid, according to US law.

In response to the military takeover in Gabon, the US joined other Western powers in suspending aid. Despite this, US assistance to Gabon has been minimal.
