PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION
SASEGBON’S JUDICIAL DICTIONARY OF NIGERIAN LAW (A
COMPREHENSIVE DICTIONARY OF WORDS AND PHRASES IN 7
VOLUMES)
Life itself has given me the heart-breaking task of having to write a Posthumous
Preface to the last New Publication conceived and edited by my husband, the late
and illustrious Legal Publisher, DEJI SASEGBON ESQ, SAN.
Deji Sasegbon’s membership of the class of great achievers stemmed from his
assiduousness as a meticulous lawyer, a visionary and an industrious and most thorough
author and publisher. D.S.C. Publications was his brainchild and greatest achievement.
At the start of his legal career as a Lagos State Prosecutor, he experienced first-
hand the effects of the lack of published Law Reports and what this dearth meant to
legal scholarship, to the practice of law and to the administration of justice generally.
In 1987 he took a bold step towards the realisation of his dreams by setting up his
private legal practice, Deji Sasegbon & Co. In 1988 the culmination of his experiences,
dreams and tenacity were actualised in the establishment of D.S.C. Publications, a
now house-hold name in the legal profession. Its publications are appreciated, sought

none. As well as being a force within himself, he was a great teacher and over the
years created highly competent Editorial Teams. He lived by his firm belief that

works he published not only served as comprehensive information tools but were of
such an impeccable standard as to be a vehicle for the better and more efficient
practice of Law in Nigeria.
The late Deji Sasegbon Esq, SAN began work on his fledgling idea back in 2007
after the successful launch of his ground-breaking publication: Sasegbon’s Laws
of Nigeria (an Encyclopedia of Nigerian Law in 30 volumes). This work
represents the most comprehensive overview and statement of Nigerian law to date.
The learned silk, with his ever-critical mind, determined that this mammoth work
was incomplete. Following up on his research of existing legal publications he
concluded that there was a need for a comprehensive Nigerian judicial dictionary
of words and phrases. He felt it was needed not only to complement the
