No cash is missing in Ogoni Trust Fund, says ex-board chair Edun

The pioneer Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of Ogoni Trust Fund, Mr. Wale Edun, has said he left the trust fund in a healthy financial state.

He said no money was missing at the end of his tenure.

Edun, a one-time Finance Commissioner in Lagos State, said the BoT, which he chaired, had successfully laid the foundation for the clean-up of Ogoni land as recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report.

Edun's claim on the Fund's financial status was confirmed by his scuccessor, Michael Nwielaghi.

He corroborated Edun's statement in an interview.

Speaking at the send-off/dinner on Monday in Abuja, Edun said the board, under his watch, left a world-class funding structure.

The former finance commissioner said it took a lot of hard work by the BoT to set up the trust fund for the smooth take-off of the remediation programme for Ogoni land.

He said: 'Everything is now set for the clean-up of Ogoni. At the end of our tenure as the pioneer BoT of the Ogoni Trust Fund, which I had the privilege and honour to lead, when the Ogoni people checked, they found that none of their money was missing.
