INEC lauds creation of fake news mobile App

The Director of Voters Education in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Victor Aluko, has applauded the RiseNetworks, RunAm and the Mac Authur Foundation for creating a mobile App for checkmating the spread of fake news on social media, especially during this year's election period.

Aluko said INEC expressed joy when it heard of institutions developing an App to combat fake news.

The INEC director said this year's elections are crucial, adding that the commission cannot afford to go wrong.

Aluko spoke during the Agenda for the Press Conference and Public Presentation of Run-Am Mobile App in Abuja.

The INEC director said the government encounters fake news everyday, stressing that there is need to partner RiseNetworks on curbing of fake news during the election period.

He said most of the news on the internet emanated from computer manipulations.
