Igbo in Lagos endorse Sanwo-Olu for second term

Acoalition of Igbo groups has endorsed Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for second term. It described him as its sole candidate for the March 11 governorship election.

The group, comprising state town unions of Igbo extraction, Igbo dominated market associations, think tank/intelligentsia groups, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter, Ndieze/Igbo traditional institutions, Igbo movie producers and artistes and other socio-cultural and socio-political organisations, said they agreed to work together under G50 Ndigbo Integrated Campaign Council to return the governor to office.

In a statement issued at the weekend, the group said it was the first time in the history of Ndigbo in Lagos State that they were working together for a common cause, adding: 'We have eschewed our individual, political and group interests to achieve our collective interest in G50 for the accomplishment of the second term ambition of the governor.'

The statement, signed by the group's Chairman, Dr. Festus Uchenna, and Secretary, Chief Everest Ozornweke, said its endorsement of Sanwo-Olu was sacrosanct and binding on 'all members of the associations, represented in G50 irrespective of their individual political affiliations.'
