FOREWORD
I feel honoured to be requested by the author of this encyclopaedia of Nigerian Law
and Practice-“Sasegbon’s Laws of Nigeria” – to write a foreword to the works.
The Publication, which consists of 30 volumes, is a compilation of the interpretation
of the entire body of Nigerian Law by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court of
Appeal and the various High Courts. It includes both Federal and State Laws, as well
as procedural and substantive laws, as determined by the courts in question.
Numerous principles and statements of law, which have stood the test of time and
which have formed the foundation of Nigeria’s ever-developing legal system, are
presented in the publication. The works uniquely reflect and present in a concise and
exhaustive form the results of accumulated precedents which replaced, modified or
supplemented older doctrines during the immediate past 25 years which have seen
significant changes and progress in the Nigerian judicial system.
The encyclopaedia is an addition to the previous work by the author – Deji Sasegbon,
Esq., S.A.N., who had earlier authored and published the Nigerian Supreme Court
Cases which is a law report of 38 volumes including 2 volumes of index. There is no
doubt that his capability, research and analytical mind have combined to make this
publication indispensable to all those interested in the practice of law. I, therefore,
recommend it to legal practitioners, judges, law lecturers and students who will find it,
as a tool for quick reference, very useful.
