'Declare one week public holiday to enable students collect PVCs'

The National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Sunday Okeke, has urged the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare one week public holiday, to enable students of tertiary institutions go home and collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

He said not doing so would disenfranchise youths, who were registered as prospective voters during the eight-month strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Okeke said with INEC insisting on the January 22 deadline for the collection of PVCs, it would be difficult for most eligible voters to collect their PVCs 'now that the students are back to school and many are far...
