Court stops monarch's appointment in Ondo

An Ondo State High Court sitting at Okitipupa has stopped appointment of a monarch for Alagbon community in Ilaje Local Government.

It restrained Ondo State Government from taking further steps or actions giving effect to the White Paper thereon in respect of recognising, appointing, inaugurating, presenting of instrument or staff of office to or installation of Chief Wole Uroaye or any person as Gbogunron of Ugbo (Alagbon) or Oba of whatever title at Alagbon in the Ilaje Local Government, pending the final determination of the suit.

In the suit filed by the Asogbon of Ugbo, Chief Isaiah Demehin and the Baale of Alagbon, Chief Malon Ogebe, for themselves and on behalf of the founders and ruling families of Alagbon, the claimants said the Gbogunron family of Ugbo were not indigenous to Alagbon.

They said Alagbon was founded by Jagbale, the Asogbon of Ugbo, whose descendants and those of Olomade had consistently and exclusively produced the Baale of the community under the Prescribed Authority of the Olugbo of Ugbo.
