Coroner, Falana meet Wednesday over police inspector's death

The Chief Coroner of Lagos State Judiciary, Justice Mojisola Dada, will today meet with Femi Falana (SAN) over the death of one Police Inspector Monday Orukpe.

The meeting, which was at the instance of Falana, will hold between 12noon and 2pm.

Justice Dada will be represented by Coroner, Badagry district, F.J. Adefioye, who is also Chief Magistrate of the Badagry Court 2,

A January 10 letter of invitation to the meeting reads: 'I have the directive of the Chief Coroner to invite you to a preliminary meeting with the undersigned in respect of the above-mentioned subject matter. One of the following dates is suggested (Wednesday 18th or Thursday 19th January, 2023) between 12noon and 2pm.'

Falana had, in a January 4, 2023 letter addressed to Justice Dada, requested for an inquest into the death of the police inspector and torturing of four others 'by Privates of the Nigerian Army'.

The letter reads: '…precisely on August 3, 2022, it was alleged that about 30 Privates of the Nigerian Army, while on transit at the Trade Fair section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, attacked five policemen for stopping vehicles along their lane to pave way for others to pass.

'Angered by this development, the soldiers descended on the senior officer leading the team of policemen, eventually murdered one Inspector...
