The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdulahi Adamu, has urged the party leadership in Benue State to ensure that the state returns to the progressive fold this year.

Adamu, who disclosed this at the official, flag-off of the APC governorship campaign in Gboko Local Government Area, said the party's mandate was stolen during the last general election by the main opposition party, the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP).

Adamu, who was represented by the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Alhaji Mu'azu Bawa Rijau said Benue State is synonymous with the APC because of the loyalty of the people to the party. The loyalty, he added, has been rewarded by the landmark achievements recorded by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, and 'this makes it imperative for Benue people to vote for the APC this time around'.

The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume said that the plot to discourage the people from voting for the APC presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima on the grounds of the Muslim-Muslim ticket will not succeed.

Akume added that the APC governorship candidate in Benue, Rev. Fr. Alia is equally facing a tough battle and 'needs the support of the federal authorities in Abuja to be able to win and solve the problems in the state'.

The minister recalled that the state voted massively for the Abiola/Kingibe ticket in 1993; another Muslim-Muslim ticket. He said what the people want is a joint ticket that can take the nation to the promised land and therefore the issue of the religious persuasion of the candidate and his running mate should not arise.

He said: 'Let nobody deceive you, forget what they are saying about the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC; what matters is their capacity to solve the problems facing the country at the moment.'

The APC governorship candidate, Rev. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, said it is unfortunate that the Samuel Ortom administration has unleashed untold hardship on the people in the last seven years. He promised that if elected governor he will revitalize the moribund general hospitals across the state to improve the health care delivery services, prioritize agriculture to put the state prominently on the map of development, as well as build cottage industries to check unemployment among others.
