Governor urges Olukare, Owa Ale to maintain peace

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has warned troublemakers in Ikare-Akoko to desist.

He said he would not condone violence.

The governor advised people fighting over the disputed portion of the town, Ikoja, to embrace truce or face the wrath of the law for breaching community peace.

Crisis has ensued in the ancient town, following the recognition of Owa Ale as a monarch, in addition to the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh.

The crisis has resulted in loss of lives and property, thereby escalating security challenges.

Information and Orientation Commissioner Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, in a statement, said the government would not condone breach of law and order in the community.

She said:' We take our responsibilities seriously. This is why Governor Akeredolu has taken steps to restore order to Ikare without fear or favour.

'We know that it is within the rights of citizens to feel angry, frustrated or displeased by the acts of their fellow citizens or government. However, the right to feel angry does not include the right to act angry, or recourse to irrational, destructive violence.
